A recipient of a Detroit Music Award for Outstanding Songwriter in the World Music category, Marbrisa is more of a musical polymath than a devotee of a particular sound. She went to Spain to attend flamenco guitar school, she’s played in jazz clubs in Mexico City, and she curated a monthly songwriter event in New Orleans, where she’d gone to immerse herself in jazz and Black American music.

Latin, jazz, funk, and folk music come together on Marbrisa’s debut solo record, Ciclos. Not unlike the transportive work of Brazilian sonic chameleon Seu Jorge or New York’s foot-stomping gypsy punks Gogol Bordello, Marbrisa also masters the art of fusing the traditional with the contemporary. '

The Detroit bred singer-songwriter started her musical journey in Latin America.  As a musical embodiment of her surroundings, she writes music that blends Latin, Jazz, RnB and folk. She released her second album, Ciclos, in 2019 with some of Detroit's most notable musicians; including Sean Blackman, Ron Otis (Aretha Franklin, KEM), James Simonson (Bettye Lavette) and hip hop artist Mahogany Jones. This album helped her to win a Detroit Music Award for Outstanding Songwriter in world music. She has toured through Central America and Europe, including performances in Mexico City's jazz clubs, and Cuba's Casa de la Trova. She moved to New Orleans 3 years ago, which  allowed her to launch her monthly all female composer event, called Queens of the Song Age. Being in one of the most musical cities of the world has been a pivotal influence to her music career, as she performs full time in clubs such as 3090 and Royal Frenchman Hotel. She plans to record an album between Detroit and New Orleans Spring 2025. In 2024, she performed a few sets at the international festival SXSW, and recently was on the cover of Detroit MetroTimes for her performance feature at the Detroit Institute of Arts.
